PTS Graphics and Media Production Assistant
DESCRIPTION:
The City of Santa Clarita is currently recruiting for a part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) Graphics and Media Production Assistant in the Communications divisions of the City Manager's Office. Under the supervision of the Communications Manager, this position will provide support across graphic design, photography, video, and visual content creation.
This position may work up to 19 hours per week and requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Additional hours may be needed during peak seasons.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Resizes and reformats existing designs for social media, web graphics, flyers, and advertisements
- Ensures quality control of design and print materials by checking for accuracy, color consistency, adherence to brand standards, City philosophy, and industry guidelines, and standard file formats
- Proofreads and reviews graphic designs for errors prior to final production
- Films and records content with professional cameras, broadcast pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, and audio recording and mobile devices
- Captures videos and photos for use on social media; creates content to support captured video and photos, edits TikToks and reels, and records voice-overs
- Provides video and photographic coverage of events, including ribbon cuttings, ground breakings, concerts, community events, luncheons, meetings, and various other programs and events
- Archives and organizes content in the City’s photo and video library
- Edits a variety of video projects for internal clients
- May occasionally assist with the production of live, televised public meetings, including City Council and Commission meetings, and with photography at these meetings
- Establishes positive working relationships with City management and staff, and the public
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- One year of experience in graphic design, photography, videography, or other related field
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related essential functions may be required
- Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Lightroom is highly desirable
- Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of formatting digital photos and videos for a variety of media, including social media
- Ability to film and photograph events, locations, portraits, and other subjects with Canon DSLR cameras
- Ability to edit and process digital photos with Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and Camera Raw
- Ability to edit digital video with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Adobe Media Encoder
- Ability to edit graphics with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
- Understanding of layout, typography, and brand guidelines with high attention to detail
- Knowledge of preparing files for both print and digital output, including proper use of bleeds, color profiles, and resolution settings
- Knowledge of Apple iMac computers and a variety of encoding formats
- Strong social media skills, including proficient use of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X
- Ability to foster effective working relationships with all levels of staff and the community
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work autonomously and within a collaborative team
- Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize daily workload, coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, be flexible to changing priorities, and meet time-sensitive deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce work that is both accurate and complete
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to lift, drag, and carry camera equipment, files, paper, and documents weighing up to 25 pounds

In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
This is not a designated Retired Annuitant position. If you are a California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) retiree, you may be required to reinstate into CalPERS.
PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
