Auditor-Appraiser I, II, III

Salary: 
Level I:  $1,896.58 - $2,266.59 Biweekly
Level II: $2,137.75 - $2,554.81 Biweekly
Level III: $2,571.00 - $3,072.58 Biweekly

EXAMINATION SCHEDULE

  • County Civil Service Exam for Auditor-Appraiser: qualified candidates will be notified of the qualifying examination date 5 days prior to the examination
  • Oral Exam: qualified candidates will be notified of the oral exam 5 days prior to the examination

Examinations:
Qualifying Only: For those with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field, passage of a County Civil Services Exam for Auditor-Appraiser is required in accordance with the State of California.  The County Civil Service exam is a comprehensive examination of the applicant's technical knowledge of accounting.
 

Oral Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose appraising the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position. 

The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant an oral examination. Should an appraisal be necessary, the appraisal will be weighted at 100%.

 


Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

Full Job Description:  Auditor-Appraiser I,  II,  III

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:
LEVEL I:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in Accounting.  Course work must include eighteen (18) semester or thirty (30) quarter units in accounting and/or auditing; 

OR

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in Accounting. Course work must include nineteen (19) semester or thirty-one (31) quarter units in accounting and/or auditing, three (3) semester or five (5) quarter units may be either Business law or economic courses.

OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant license in the State of California.

OR

A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field AND passage of the County Civil Service exam given for Auditor-Appraiser, as prescribed by the State of California.  The County Civil Service exam for Auditor-Appraiser is a comprehensive examination of the applicant's technical knowledge of accounting.

Additional Requirements Level I:
Appointees must pass a state examination to be certified as an "Appraiser for Property Tax Purposes" within one year of appointment or employment will be terminated.

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License.

LEVEL II:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in Accounting.  Course work must include eighteen (18) semester or thirty (30) quarter units in accounting and/or auditing; or

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in Accounting. Course work must include nineteen (19) semester or thirty-one (31) quarter units in accounting and/or auditing, three (3) semester or five (5) quarter units may be either Business law or economic courses.

OR

A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field AND passage of the County Civil Service exam given for Auditor-Appraiser, as prescribed by the State of California.  The County Civil Service exam for Auditor-Appraiser is a comprehensive examination of the applicant's technical knowledge of accounting.

AND

Completion of one (1) year of experience equivalent to an Auditor-Appraiser I in the Kern County Classification System.

Additional Requirements for Level II:
A valid certificate as an "Appraiser for Property Tax Purposes" issued by the California State Board of Equalization.

OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant license in the State of California.

Appointees must pass a state examination to be certified as an "Appraiser for Property Tax Purposes" within one year of appointment or employment will be terminated.

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in Accounting.  Course work must include eighteen (18) semester or thirty (30) quarter units in accounting and/or auditing; or

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in Accounting. Course work must include nineteen (19) semester or thirty-one (31) quarter units in accounting and/or auditing, three (3) semester or five (5) quarter units may be either Business law or economic courses.   

OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant license in the State of California.

OR

Completion of two (2) years experience equivalent to an Auditor-Appraiser II in the Kern County Classification System.

Additional Information

 

Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.

 

A background check may be conducted for this classification.

 

Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.

 

This examination will establish an eligible list for the Kern County Assessor-Recorder's Office from which immediate appointment will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
