VC Marketing Fellow (Stories, Brand, Events)

VC Marketing Fellow (Stories, Brand, Events)

About ODDBIRD

ODDBIRD  is a founder-forward venture firm investing at pre-seed stage. We back ambitious early teams building the next wave of products we’ll all use. Our SF-based team is three people and growing — we like to move fast, think deeply, and stay close to founders. We’re looking for a Marketing Fellow — someone who loves ideas, words, and startups, and wants to see how venture capital actually works.

The Role

Your mission: shape how ODDBIRD tells its story — to LPs, founders and the broader ecosystem. You’ll craft writing that’s both analytical and aesthetic — from founder profiles and LP narratives to social posts and event copy. This is a flexible, part-time role (~20 hrs/week) — ideal for a high-energy student who’s curious about venture, startups, and brand storytelling.

2mo probation, 12 mo role, with the option to continue longer

What You’ll Do

  • Tell high-conviction stories. Turn founder interviews and investment notes into crisp, memorable narratives for LPs and the public.

  • Write founder profiles and market primers. Research industries and early-stage companies (with the investment team’s help) and draft insights that make people stop and think.

  • Shape ODDBIRD’s voice. Refine the firm’s tone, visual language, and brand guardrails across our site, decks, socials, and events.

  • Grow reach. Draft and schedule posts on X and LinkedIn; ship a monthly newsletter that sparks conversation and deepens trust.

  • Support small high-signal events. Help with copy, invites, and follow-ups for private gatherings with founders, LPs, and media.

You Might Be a Fit If

  • You love startups and storytelling — you think in markets and metaphors.

  • You can write clearly, confidently, and with a voice. You’ve edited enough to know what good writing feels like.

  • You’re curious about how ideas become companies and capital.

  • You have a sense of taste — what looks good, what reads well, what feels off.

  • You’re proactive and independent — we’ll give you context and trust you to run with things.

Bonus Points

  • Writing background in journalism, media, or economics (campus paper, Substack, think tank, etc.)

  • Experience in content, marketing, or brand design (Figma/Canva + visual judgment).

  • Knowledge of what travels on LinkedIn/X (hooks, pacing, tone), experience with content growth hacking

  • Evidence of independent projects — newsletter, club, blog, community, or product.

What You’ll Learn

  • How early-stage investors translate market shifts into conviction stories.

  • How LPs evaluate narrative and brand when they invest in funds.

  • How storytelling drives capital formation — not just attention.

Success in 60 Days

  • Publish two LP-grade pieces (e.g. market note + founder story).

  • Build a one-page voice guide and post templates.

  • Ship 6–8 social posts one newsletter with measurable lift (reach, replies, resonance)
