The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is looking for a motivated, creative individual to join our team in the Examination Services Unit (ESU) within our Human Resources Division (HRD). The Student Assistant (SA) provides support to the Examination Services Unit (ESU), including creating and maintaining logs to track unit activities, providing customer service and support in relation to exam related inquiries and assistance in the application review process. The incumbent will gain experience regarding contribution of positive efforts towards the completion of coordinated tasks within an office environment. They will gain insight into the Merit process, in particular, Selection Services.
Under the supervision of the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I), of the ESU, the SA, will perform Selection services clerical work associated with examination development and administration. The SA will assist in a range of tasks that the exam analysts within the unit perform such as a variety of clerical duties, general office procedures, time management skills and support the office needs regarding department specific classifications ESU utilizes to process examinations that conform to the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) and State Personnel Board (SPB) guidelines on employee Selection and adheres to State laws and rules.
This non-tenured intermittent position will be limited to working up to 1,500 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Experience in Human Resources.
Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring etc., if applicable), at an accredited college or university. Proof of application for, or enrollment as a student in an appropriate accredited college or university program.
