The Police Officer Trainee level does not require previous law enforcement experience. Police Officer Trainees attend an approved Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) basic police academy to be trained in the technical knowledge, skills and physical capabilities. Upon successful completion of the academy, Trainees become sworn police officers. The salary for Trainees while attending Academy is $6,952 per month. The starting salary for sworn Police Officers is $8,248 per month.  Excellent benefits including a generous hiring bonus, educational incentives, and bilingual pay are just part of the package. 

 

Minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or tested equivalent, at least 20.5 years old at the time of testing and 21 years old at time of appointment, and ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver’s license by the time of appointment. Candidates are required to submit POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) test results and California POST Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) at the time of application.
