9914 Public Service Aide - Associate Advocate

The Victim Services Division is currently conducting a recruitment seeking candidates for the position of 9914 Public Service Aide, with the working title of Associate Advocate. Under direct supervision, the Public Service Aide, will be trained in basic skills in order to assist the Victim Advocacy team in providing services to victims and witnesses of crime. The Aide will learn a general overview of the functions of the Victim Witness Advocacy, Claims and Restitution Specialists in order to provide basic services. The Public Service Aide will be exposed to all areas of function but may learn more about one or more functional areas and perform tasks specific to one or more of the following unit(s): Advocacy, Compensation and/or Restitution. Successful completion of the program will provide a selected applicant adequate training to meet minimum qualifications for the 8129, Victim Witness Investigator position. 

The Trainee will apply general office administrative/clerical functions, as well as specific skills, including providing reception, filing, demonstrating proficiency on office equipment & MS Office suite, maintaining adequate note taking for entry in the designated law enforcement database, initiate (for review before submission) Victim Compensation claim applications and restitution orders. 

Particular focus will be on learning how to establish and maintain working relationships with attorneys, law enforcement personnel, criminal justice agencies and community partners, complete intakes with clients, submit compensation claims, as well as learning the overview of the District Attorney’s Office and corresponding work of the Victim Witness Unit therein.

The 9914 Public Service Aide-Admin, Function Title: Victim Witness Trainee, is a Category 18 position which allows for up to a three-year appointment however the actual duration of employment will depend on funding availability and success in the program. The typical appointment will be one-year, subject to extension. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a high school graduate or possess GED; preferably enrolled in an accredited college or university in a degree program such as Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Law, or related field.
  • All work experience, education, training, and other information substantiating how you meet the minimum qualifications must be included in your application.
