Position Description:
One (1) Permanent-Exempt, full time, (40 hours/week), full year (260 days/year) position. Exempt employees are considered "at will" and serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.

Under direction from the Broadcast Electronic Media Arts Department Chair, the Senior Broadcast Equipment Technician is responsible for system design, equipment installation, preventative maintenance, and repair of video and audio production and editing systems; maintaining and troubleshooting cablecast systems, head-end operations and signal distribution by cable and internet. This is a combination supervisory and hands-on position: The Senior Technician supervises the activities of subordinate personnel and oversees design, budgeting, purchase, installation and operation of video and audio equipment for the department.
Job Duties:

1. Assists a variety of media center users (e.g. teachers, students, community members, etc.) for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and class assignments, and citizen requests.2. Compiles information from a variety of sources (e.g. media use, program effectiveness outcomes, equipment, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in the evaluation and development of programs and services to meet the needs of students and faculty, and the goals and requirements of the media broadcast center.3. Enforces media policies in unsupervised settings (e.g. study areas, broadcast media areas, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and secure facilities that meet the purposes of broadcast media center and those using it.4. Evaluates media for retention within collection (e.g. equipment, BMS/BEMA, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring updated availability of media broadcasting resources and materials.5. Maintains a variety of files, documents, and records (e.g. materials overdue, database records, material costs, licenses, media equipment, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing up-to-date information, ensuring availability, and complying with mandated requirements.6. Manages the college's video live-streaming platform (e.g. user access, setup, archive, web page management, etc.) for the purpose of providing access and ensuring availability of materials in an efficient manner.7. Monitors broadcast media budget (e.g. subscriptions, needed replacement materials, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring budgetary compliance and inventory availability.8. Orders a variety of media-related inventory for the purpose of ensuring availability of inventory as needed and in accordance with standard guidelines.9. Oversees work study students (e.g. new hires, orientation, daily work assignments, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring completion of assignments, new employee processes in accordance with established guidelines.10. Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions.11. Prepares a variety of reports (e.g. collection statistics, scheduling reports/requests, etc.) for the purpose of providing documentation and information to others on a regular and as needed.12. Repairs or refers to repair services for media equipment and materials for the purpose of ensuring the availability of broadcast media center resources.13. Researches a variety of information (e.g. audiovisual equipment, vendors, outsource facilities, emerging technology, etc.) for the purpose of recommending purchases, vendors/suppliers, and being knowledgeable on developments in the industry.14. Responds to inquiries from a variety of courses (e.g. students, faculty, community members, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and direction as required.15. Supervises students, and student workers (e.g. media production, etc.) for the purpose of training students in the media broadcasting arts.16. Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of high school with additional training in electronics and radio and television maintenance and repair; AND
Requires five (5) years of increasingly responsible and varied experience in the design, operation, maintenance, and repair of closed-circuit broadcasting systems; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Note: College Work Student and Student Lab Aide experience with the District will be considered/applied as qualifying experience per an agreement made between the District and SEIU. This agreement will allow District students to take advantage of employment opportunities.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated ability to design, install, maintain and repair analog and digital audio and video production and editing systems.2. Technical knowledge of cablecasting systems and video streaming systems such as Granicus, including ability to troubleshoot head-end operations, automated playout systems, and signal distribution via cable and internet.3. Ability to provide specifications and assist in the purchasing of audio, video and computer equipment, system parts and related software and supplies; maintain vendor contracts and records of requisitions and purchase orders; and manage the Broadcast Media Services and EATV budgets.4. Ability to plan for, procure, and maintain an inventory of parts, supplies, and materials required for ongoing maintenance.5. Experience providing technical support for advanced audio and video production both in the studio and in the field.6. Ability to mentor and supervise subordinate broadcast equipment technicians, including scheduling, timekeeping, and workflow delegation and assist with training and demonstration of the proper use of equipment to BEMA staff.7. Ability to advise on efficient use of production studios, computer labs and other spaces in the Broadcast Electronic Media Arts Department at both Ocean Campus and Mission Center.8. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse community of students, staff and faculty.9. Participate in departmental and district meetings.10. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment.11. Ability to work effectively as a member of a faculty, staff, student team.12. Completion of 30 or more units of college level (or equivalent) studies.13. Ability to initiate and complete major projects from start to finish.14. Possession of a valid California state motor vehicle operator's license.
Benefits:
1. Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas and New Year’s Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days off during spring break. Eligible school- term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year’s Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreements between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school- term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.2. New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013, will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).
