Role Overview

As an Account Executive at JCI, you will support a portfolio of client accounts in the clean energy, water, and sustainability spaces. A key part of your role will be serving as a liaison on the Energy Upgrade CA Flex Alert grant program — coordinating between JCI grant managers, our partner firm DDC Public Affairs, and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to ensure deliverables are met and communications flow smoothly. You will also contribute to new business development and social media efforts as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with grant managers to ensure CBOs are reaching their deliverables
  • Report out on weekly DDC calls about the status of JCI/CBO coordination
  • Create weekly reports and collect CBO feedback and concerns
  • Support additional client accounts in the clean energy, water, and sustainability sectors
  • Contribute to new business development efforts, including research, proposals, and presentations
  • Support social media efforts across client accounts, including content creation using Canva and other tools
  • Provide support to your assigned team including media tracking, list building, AI-aided research, copy drafting and editing, and general client support
  • Coordinate event logistics, conduct client calls, support media outreach, develop databases, and coordinate mailings and materials as needed
  • Craft client memos and recap documents that, with minimal edits by account lead, can be forwarded to clients
  • Actively participate in internal brainstorming sessions and proactively contribute ideas to projects
  • Build and maintain relationships with CBO partners, clients, and key allies
  • Help oversee and keep Associates on task

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 1-2 Years of Public relations, public policy, or communications background
  • Strong writing skills – both creative and professional
  • Experience working with AI tools and creating AI-powered products or workflows
  • Experience working with nonprofits or Community-Based Organizations
  • Basic knowledge of local and/or statewide campaigns
  • Social media experience, including proficiency with Canva
  • Web design experience preferred
  • Strong project management skills (or equivalent experience)
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key allies and contacts
  • Comfortable conducting outreach via phone and email
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Experience

1–2 years of full-time work experience required. A background in public relations, public policy, communications, or nonprofit work is preferred. Experience or interest in climate, healthcare, and/or technology is ideal. Ideal candidates will also have a basic knowledge of generative AI tools.

Internal & External Relationships

Internal:

  • Regularly make recommendations to project lead on how to improve projects
  • Work with project/team lead to complete scope of work at top quality and within contract terms
  • Consistently move into problem-solving mode when challenges arise
  • Demonstrate respect for colleagues at all levels and contribute to a positive work environment

External:

  • Build relationships with clients, new and returning
  • Pitch op-eds and client media-related pieces to publications
  • Conduct outreach to CBOs in coalition building for client campaigns
  • Represent JCI or clients at industry or skill-specific meetings or conferences

Reporting Structure

The Account Executive reports directly to the President, VP of Public Affairs, and/or Supervisor who leads their assigned team, but may also be assigned tasks by other members of the team.
