Office of Civic Engagement Student Intern
Location: Valley Water headquarters - 5700 Almaden Expressway, San Jose, CA 95118
Type: Part-time, hybrid option available
Compensation: $28.27/hour for undergraduate students or $32.27/hour for graduate students

The Santa Clara Valley Water District, now known as Valley Water, manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection, and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County’s 1.9 million residents. The Office of Civic Engagement (OCE) unit is looking for a year-round student intern to support the unit and its Grants and Partnerships Program.
OCE is dedicated to enhancing public understanding and support for Valley Water’s mission through community engagement, education, and partnerships. The Grants and Partnerships Program funds projects through three different grants programs and partnerships. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to develop essential skills in communication, organization, and grants management, while gaining insight into the multifaceted operations of local government.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in managing shared email inboxes and route and file emails and documents accordingly.
• Compile and proofread content from multiple sources for monthly reports and route for approval.
• Maintain a variety of files and records; run and organize reports from databases, including spreadsheets.
• Order, receive, and organize program materials and office supplies.
• Develop and update social media posts, flyers, and other outreach materials.
• Support teams with planning and implementing programs and special events, including interacting with the public and community stakeholders.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Ideal Competencies and Knowledge:
• Interest in community engagement, grants administration, and public service.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Can work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 and comfortable learning new software.
Qualifications and requirements:
• Enrolled in at least 9 units per semester or quarter equivalent in an accredited college or university or have graduated within the past 6 months. Proof of enrollment will be required.
• Able to work at least 3 days per week, averaging 15-20 hours per week, during office hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.)
• This internship position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite. Hybrid work must be performed in the state of California within 150 miles of San Jose, CA.
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
