Summer Student Assistant – Transportation Engineering Research (Undergraduate)
Professor Sravani Vadlamani in the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering is seeking applications for a Summer Student Assistant position. This opportunity is ideal for undergraduate students in Civil Engineering who are passionate about transportation engineering and interested in gaining hands-on research experience.
The selected student will support ongoing research projects in transportation data analysis and will have the opportunity to develop skills in data-driven decision-making, statistical analysis, and research methods under faculty guidance.
Position Details:
- Duration: Summer term
- Schedule: Approximately 20 hours per week
- Compensation: $19/hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with data collection, cleaning, and management for transportation-related datasets
- Perform basic statistical and exploratory data analyses
- Support the development of reports, visualizations, and summaries of findings
- Contribute to research activities and documentation as needed
- Work both independently and collaboratively on assigned tasks
Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate student in Civil Engineering (or closely related field)
- Strong interest in transportation engineering
- Willingness to learn and engage in research activities
- Basic quantitative and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework or familiarity with transportation engineering concepts
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Python, R, or similar)
- Exposure to GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS)
- Basic understanding of statistical methods (e.g., regression analysis)
