Diesel Mechanic - Level A/B

Job Title: Level A/B Diesel and Gasoline Mechanic

Location: Hayward, California 

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday through Friday until readiness is determined; then transition to Tuesday through Saturday

Compensation: $25.00 - $55.00 an hour

Position Overview: We are seeking a Level A/B Diesel and Gasoline Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of diesel powered vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, ensuring that all vehicles are in optimal working condition. This is a full-time position starting Monday through Friday, but then transitioning to a Tuesday through Saturday workweek based on performance and readiness determined by the company.

Key Responsibilities:  Perform diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, vehicles, and equipment.  Conduct routine maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles, including oil changes, brake inspections, tire checks, and fluid replacements.  Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems to ensure proper operation.  Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations.  Maintain accurate records of all services performed, including repairs and inspections.  Assist with emergency breakdowns and mobile repairs when necessary.  Collaborate with other mechanics and team members to complete tasks in a timely and eAicient manner.  Keep tools, equipment, and work areas organized and clean.  Adhere to company policies and procedures related to maintenance and repair practices.  Run parts errands and retrieve necessary components from vendors or suppliers.  Assist with general cleaning and upkeep during downtime, ensuring a tidy and safe working environment.  Perform general office or building tasks as needed, such as organizing supplies or assisting with inventory management.

Qualifications:  Knowledge of diesel engines, powertrains, electrical systems, hydraulics, and air brake systems.  Ability to read and understand technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.  Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.  Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.  Valid California driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).  Must provide own hand tools (specialty tools provided).  High school diploma or equivalent; ASE certification or equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements:  Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).  Ability to work in various weather conditions, including outdoor work.  Stamina to work in a physically demanding environment for extended periods.

Work Schedule:  Full-time position: 8 hours a day Monday through Friday until readiness is determined; then transition to Tuesday through Saturday.
