Long-Form Video Editor / Post-Production Editor

Long-Form Video Editor / Post-Production Editor

Location: San Francisco Bay Area (required)
Position: Freelance / Hourly, with potential to grow into a full-time position
Time Commitment: Approximately 20 hours per week on average, with significant week-to-week variation
Compensation: $35–$50/hour, depending on experience

About The Enemies Project

The Enemies Project is a long-form documentary series that brings together people who see one another as enemies for extended, in-person conversations that move from conflict toward human understanding.

In just over a year, our work has received tens of millions of views across platforms and built a community of several hundred thousand subscribers. We have grown rapidly because we believe there is a real hunger for media that treats people across our deepest divides as human beings rather than caricatures or enemies.

We are still a small organization (mainly a father and a daughter!) and are now beginning to build the team and infrastructure necessary for the next stage of our growth.

We are looking for a talented Bay Area–based video editor to help take our long-form episodes from the initial content edit through final production.

This will begin as a freelance, hourly position, but our hope is to find someone who can ultimately grow with us into a full-time role.

Most of the work can be done remotely, but occasional in-person work at our Oakland studio will be required, including helping with filming days, studio setup, equipment, and media management. Because the permanent position we are building toward will be Bay Area–based, we are specifically looking for someone who already lives in the area.

Our Editing Process

Each conversation is recorded with approximately four cameras and three individual audio sources, resulting in roughly five hours of raw footage.

Our current workflow uses AI-assisted multicamera editing to create an initial cut based largely on who is speaking. The footage is then uploaded to Reduct, a transcript-based video editing platform.

The show’s creator currently performs the primary content edit in Reduct, reducing approximately five hours of conversation to roughly one hour and determining the overall content and structure of the episode.

The editor then takes that edit into Adobe Premiere Pro and turns it into a polished finished film.

Editing & Post-Production Responsibilities

The editor will:

  • Manage and organize multicamera video and separately recorded audio
  • Work with our AI-assisted multicamera workflow and Reduct
  • Transfer the content edit into Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Refine cuts, pacing, and conversational timing
  • Select the strongest and most natural camera angles
  • Clean, balance, and correct dialogue audio
  • Perform color correction and match footage across cameras
  • Identify and correct technical issues with footage or audio
  • Smooth awkward cuts and transitions created during the content-editing process
  • Add titles, text, black screens, freeze frames, graphics, and other editorial elements
  • Incorporate recorded voiceovers
  • Export review versions and final masters
  • Complete revision rounds based on detailed editorial notes
  • Maintain clean, organized Premiere projects and media

Production, Equipment & Media Management

In addition to editing, this person will help manage the technical infrastructure surrounding our productions. Responsibilities may include:

  • Setting up and breaking down cameras, microphones, lighting, and other studio equipment on filming days
  • Monitoring cameras and/or audio during filming
  • Managing memory cards and transferring footage following shoots
  • Maintaining and organizing our physical media, including hard drives and other storage
  • Regularly uploading and maintaining backups of raw footage, project files, and completed episodes
  • Maintaining a clear and reliable file organization and archival system
  • Ensuring footage and project files are properly backed up and protected throughout the editing process
  • Organizing and maintaining cameras, audio equipment, and other production gear
  • Helping troubleshoot technical issues with equipment, footage, storage, or the post-production workflow

Editorial & Storytelling

At present, the primary content/story edit—deciding which portions of the original five-hour conversation ultimately make up the episode—is handled by the show’s creator before the principal Premiere work begins.

That means we’re not requiring this person to come in as an accomplished documentary story editor. Our immediate need is for someone who is exceptional at the craft of post-production: pacing, timing, camera selection, sound, color, and turning a rough content edit into a compelling and highly polished finished film.

That said, strong storytelling instincts are absolutely a plus. We want an editor who notices what makes a moment powerful and has ideas about how an episode can be made better. If we discover that someone has exceptional story instincts, there is room for that person to take on greater creative and editorial responsibility over time.

What We’re Looking For

  • High proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Experience with multicamera editing
  • Strong dialogue-audio editing and mixing skills
  • Strong color-correction and camera-matching skills
  • Excellent instincts for pacing and timing
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to organize and manage large video projects and media libraries
  • Careful and reliable handling of original footage, backups, and archives
  • Ability to follow detailed editorial direction while also exercising good judgment
  • Clear, reliable communication
  • Comfort with an iterative editing and review process
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to figure things out. We are a small, growing organization, and this is not a narrowly defined editing job. From time to time, you may be asked to tackle new kinds of editing, production, or technical challenges that you haven’t encountered before. We are looking for someone who is curious, resourceful, comfortable learning new tools and techniques, and excited by the opportunity to help build our production process as we grow.

Experience with documentaries, interviews, podcasts, unscripted television, or other long-form conversational content is particularly valuable.

Experience with Reduct, Descript, AI-assisted multicamera tools, or similar workflows is helpful but not required.

Experience editing short-form or social media content is also a plus, but not required.

Mission Alignment

Technical ability matters enormously for this role, but so does alignment with the work itself.

We are trying to build something ambitious: media that is compelling enough to reach large audiences while helping people see those they fear, dislike, or disagree with as fully human.

We aren’t looking for a particular political perspective. We are looking for someone who believes in the importance of this work and is excited by the possibility of helping build it.

Candidates who move forward in the process should spend meaningful time with our work. Candidates invited to interview will be asked to watch at least one full Enemies Project episode and come prepared to talk about the episode, our mission, what resonates with them, and where they think they could contribute.

Time Commitment & Compensation

This is initially a freelance, hourly position paying $40–$50 per hour, depending on experience.

Over the next several months, we anticipate approximately 20 hours of work per week on average, although our production schedule means the workload will vary. Some weeks may require closer to 10 hours, while particularly busy periods could reach 30–40 hours.

We are looking for someone with enough flexibility to accommodate that variation and who communicates clearly about availability, timing, and deadlines.

Opportunity to Grow

We are building The Enemies Project’s long-term creative and production team, and our hope is that this freelance relationship can ultimately lead to a full-time position.

Compensation for any future full-time position would be determined separately and would not be tied to the freelance hourly rate. We anticipate that a permanent position would also include employee benefits, although the details of any future compensation and benefits package have not yet been determined.

Exactly what that position looks like may depend in part on the strengths of the person we find. For an editor with strong storytelling abilities, the role could expand further into the creative and narrative side of our long-form work. Experience or interest in short-form/social editing could also create opportunities to work across more of our content.

We care more about finding someone exceptional at the core work than finding someone who checks every possible box.

To Apply

Please send:

  • A brief introduction and why you’re interested in The Enemies Project
  • Your availability over the next 1–3 months
  • Examples of long-form work you have edited
  • A brief description of your specific role on each example
  • Your experience with Premiere Pro, multicamera editing, dialogue/audio work, and color correction
  • Any experience with transcript-based or AI-assisted editing workflows
  • Any experience with documentary storytelling or short-form/social editing

Candidates invited to interview will be asked to watch at least one full Enemies Project episode and be prepared to discuss both the work and our mission.
