Oakland Genesis, a nonprofit soccer academy serving youth in the Oakland community, is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Volunteer Tutors to support middle and high school students after school at Madison Park Academy.
This is an opportunity to combine academic support with mentorship and help young people build the confidence, skills, and habits they need to succeed both in the classroom and beyond.
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. You do not need to be a teacher or professional tutor to apply—we are looking for people who are patient, encouraging, reliable, and passionate about supporting Oakland youth.
The Opportunity
Tutors will work directly with students during the after-school hours of 4:00–7:00 PM, Monday through Thursday.
Volunteers may commit to 1, 2, 3, or 4 days per week, depending on their availability. Consistent weekly participation is encouraged so that volunteers can build relationships with students and provide reliable support.
Students will need tutoring support through mid-December and again throughout the spring semester, making this a great opportunity for volunteers who are interested in a longer-term commitment.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and small-group academic support.
- Help students with homework, assignments, studying, and organization.
- Support students in developing strong study habits and independent learning skills.
- Encourage students to ask questions, work through challenges, and build confidence.
- Build positive and supportive relationships with middle and high school students.
- Create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment.
- Work collaboratively with Oakland Genesis staff and other volunteers.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for students in the Oakland community.

Previous tutoring or youth-development experience is helpful, but not required. What matters most is your willingness to show up consistently, connect with students, and help them succeed.

Schedule & Commitment
Monday–Thursday | 4:00–7:00 PM
Volunteers can choose a commitment that works for their schedule:
1–4 days per week
We encourage volunteers to select consistent days each week whenever possible. The immediate tutoring period runs through mid-December, with opportunities to continue supporting students throughout the spring semester.
